I was walking around town recently and was stunned at all the NYC Movers with there moving trucks. In one block alone I counted 3 professional nyc moving companies. So even with the recent credit crunch and a downturn in the housing market, people & families are still moving at a steady rate. The moving industry is fueled by the mobility of Americans. Renters, Buyers and Sellers it doesn’t matter we all cant seem to stay in one place for to long. 
Here are some results from the Bureau of the Census study for the year ending March 2005, 39.9 million Americans changed residences. The study shows that these moves were made as follows:
• 57% moved within the same county
• 20% moved within the same state
• 19% changed states
• 4% moved abroad
The study also finds that the most active age group is the 20-24 year olds, making up 30.1% of the mobile population. They are closely followed by the 25-29 year olds making up 28.1% of the mobile population.

Yes, nyc movers or people who are advertising nyc moving services on craigslist can be cheap. A high percentage of advertisers on craigslist are what are known in the industry as A Rogue Mover, not all advertisers but the majority. Here are just a few things to think about when considering a craigslist mover.
Basically A Rogue Mover is operating unlicensed and uninsured. Apart from being illegal he is probably paying substandard wages, which means professional movers wont being showing up at your door to handle your furnishings. Using a rogue mover is the surest way to get ripped off as we hear the stories all the time. They come in with this low ball price only to demand an exorbitant amount of money at the end of the move, hijacking the consumer’s items until he pays the ransom. Now when this happens you cant call the police as the police will tell you that its a civil matter. You cant call the Department of Transport as they are unlicensed. Consumers unfortunately are left with few options other than to hand over more money to receive their goods. Now this next tip is the biggest reason not to hire a rogue mover. Licensed movers have Workers Compensation Insurance, its required by law to protect his employees against injury or the consumer from personal injury lawsuits. Thats right, homeowners fail to realize that if an employee of a rogue mover who does not have the required workers compensation insurance can be held liable for any injury occurring on their property. So homeowners beware, the couple of dollars that they save finding someone on craigslist may end up costing a fortune.
